'There’s No Song About a Stone' is my first 'non-debut album', recorded and produced by me at home. I call it a 'non-debut album' because I have long been making music in different forms, from death metal to alternative folk, so it feels strange calling it a 'debut album'. It is the product of years of songwriting and performing solo as Bity Booker.
I do take my time making things in a way that makes me happy, out of the commercial sphere and outside of norms and rules. I like to think of my creations as something organically formed and shaped by time, dreams, thoughts, rain and wind. These tape recordings feel very much alive, in the background you can hear sounds of birds, people, the sounds of London, all of which were in the room with me while recording. This album includes some of my favourite songs, some of which you may have already heard at my gigs and some never heard before. It is my favourite thing that I have ever made so far, I hope you will love it. Bity x
Like the sound of raindrops that ripple in a secret valley is the haunting pure voice and fingerpicked guitar of 'There’s No Song About a Stone', the first LP from alt-folk musician Bity Booker.
Recorded at home on her four track tape machine, over the course of three years between London and Thanet, this is an album that takes you to a special intimate place where there’s time and space to look inside yourself.
This is music out-of-time, charming and romantic, with songs that paint vivid imagery of pastel landscapes, dark forests, a far green valley and spring’s returning swallows, an obsessive mindful garden, folk inspired tales of love and loss, urban legends, the edgy and absurd tale of a wedding in an outback town, all creating a cinematic experience warmly familiar yet charmingly unknown.
A further touch of DIY liminal magic is Bity’s hand-drawn artwork, shining in all its glory on the LP with a marbled blue limited edition vinyl.
'There’s No Song About a Stone' is a unique and beautiful album, sounding like it just stepped out of a myth but rooted and earthy, as if the songs were magically played from a lone stone in a blissful meadow.
So here then we find, among these songs of birds, lost towns and tears, finally an answer to the eternal question: is there or isn’t there a song about a stone? (Marianella Pianto, 2026)
